740 W Fulton is a 14-story building offering loft-style units in the very trendy Fulton River District in Chicago’s West Loop. The builders of 740 W Fulton were catching on to the trend of traditional loft living, but were frustrated that traditional rehabbed lofts did not offer the amenities or the city views that newer and higher buildings could afford. So in 2005 they built 740 W Fulton, a striking, 14-story modern glass and concrete tower. The “imitation lofts” in this West Loop building have all the desired traits of traditional lofts: ultra high ceilings (up to 18 feet!), spacious and open floorplans, exposed ductwork, hardwood floors, and even concrete painted ceilings.
For more than a decade now, true Chicago lofts have been evolving to offer first-class finishes and amenities, a trend that started with developers like Hal Lichterman and Bruce Abrams, continued with projects like the Sexton and Union Square, and is still going strong. Fewer true lofts are on the market now than during the flood of the mid- to late ‘90s, and the dearth of convertible loft buildings is one reason builders began imitating lofts in new construction.
Yet, unlike what you would find in most lofts, 740 W. Fulton units have stainless steel appliances, granite counters, and are situated in a full-service, full-amenity building with a 24-hour concierge, a private fitness center, and a business center. Plus, the building’s height affords great city views to a large number of units.
740 W Fulton is located right on the edge of the hot Fulton River District in what has now become one of the most popular neighborhoods in downtown Chicago real estate. The growing community has been attracting urbanites that are drawn to its immediacy to downtown, and has since become a trendsetting neighborhood, home to the hottest restaurants and clubs, and with an up-and-coming gallery scene. Walking along “Restaurant Row” on Randolph Street, one will find scores of trendy, top-notch restaurants, like Sushi Wabi, De Cero, and Avec. Other bars and clubs, like Victor Hotel, Lumen, and Teatro, are just around the corner.
